Education: Closing the Digital Divide

Gov. Gray Davis has invested nearly $800 million for technology for K-12 schools since he took office, including:

  • Digital High School - More than $300 million to wire nearly every high school.
  • Education Technology Tech Grant Program - $175 million to bring every high school down to a 5-to-1 student-to-multimedia computer ratio.
  • Digital California Project - $99.5 million over the past five years to bring high-speed Internet infrastructure to schools in every county.
  • High Tech High Schools - $10 million to fund the development of three new high-tech high schools. High-tech high schools are comprehensive high schools that integrate academic and technical education in an environment that prepares students for higher education and leadership in highly technological fields.
  • CSU Professional Development - $26.7 million to train 18,000 teachers over the past five years in the use of technology to improve instruction.
